A FOURTH case of coronavirus has been announced at Mount Carmel School in Accrington.

A Y8 pupil has tested positive for the virus and the year group has been asked to stay at home tomorrow.

On the school's website, headteacher Xavier Bowers said: "All pupils in Y8 will be set work to do at home using our ‘Show my Homework’ (SMH) learning platform. If any Y8 pupil has difficulty using the SMH facility, please will you contact school and we will resolve the issue as soon as possible.

"Please can I stress in the strongest possible way how important it is that pupils in Y8 self isolate tomorrow at home and if any child shows any symptoms they get tested and stay self-isolating until they get the result!

"All pupils not affected in Y7, Y9, Y10 and Y11 should return to school tomorrow as normal.

"Once again thank you for your patience and understanding with this matter and we will endeavour to keep you informed as best as we can."

This comes after students in Y9 and Y10 were off on Monday (September 14) and Y7 pupils having Friday (September 11) off because of positive cases in each year group.
