EAST LANCASHIRE has seen over 150 confirmed cases of coronavirus since last Friday – with 107 of them in Blackburn.

Data from Public Health England showed that 165 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the east of the county since Friday, July 24.

The figures, which only include those who tested positive up until 9am yesterday morning, also revealed which areas had recorded the most and least cases.

In Blackburn, the total number of positive test results currently stands at 1,374 – up from 1,267 last Friday, an increase of 107 active cases.

While significantly less, Pendle saw the next highest increase, with 23 active cases registered, bringing their number up from 545 to 568.

Burnley was next in line, with 20 new cases over the last week and a new total of 483 active cases.

Hyndburn, with a total of 382, recorded 10 new cases with just three people testivg positive in Rossendale over the last week, briging the borough’s total number of active cases to 299.

The only area in East Lancashire not to have been included in the new restrictions to stop the spread of the virus, the Ribble Valley, has only recorded one new active case since last Friday, with a total of 202 across the whole borough.
