Graffiti is being tackled head on as it is now described as a "blight" on Bolton's streets.

Bolton council has made a new investment as part of its £1.5 million cleaner and greener initiative in a hot and cold water pressure washer to help combat graffiti across the borough.

The washer is designed to be light and transportable, attached to a trailer and with a dedicated vehicle, so that to can be used to respond rapidly wherever it is required.

This has cost £30,000 from the funding worth £1.5 million set aside by Bolton council to help improve green spaces and keep urban areas clean.

Bolton Council’s executive cabinet member for environmental services, Cllr Adele Warren, said: "Graffiti is a blight on our streets and public spaces. It is illegal vandalism and will not be tolerated in Bolton.

"The council's £1.5m Cleaner and Greener investment aims to deliver green spaces and town centres we can all be proud of.

"This is an adaptable piece of equipment that can be deployed rapidly so residents do not have to put up with the eyesore of graffiti in their community."

The fund has already been used to pay for a number of projects, such as new mowers, tree planting in Farnworth park, and new "Glutton" street cleaners.
