Bolton hospice has congratulated the efforts of residents in creating colourful gardens for their virtual competition this year.

The hospice held a Virtual Open Gardens competition from July 20 to 25 to celebrate the hard work that people have been putting into their gardens over lockdown as its own gardens have "never before looked so good".

A hospice spokesman said: "During the coronavirus pandemic, our gardens have provided a welcome distraction and have been an enormous source of comfort and escapism from the challenging situation we have all found ourselves in.

"Bolton Hospice wanted to celebrate the hard work and love that people have put into their gardens by holding our very own competition."

There were five categories including best hanging basket, vegetable garden, and best front garden.

The overall winner was voted by the public on the hospice Facebook page, which saw Jack and Isaac (pictured) win for their front garden efforts.

The hospice spokesman continued: "It was amazing to see the beautiful gardens of Bolton, the skills of local people and to celebrate a fantastic hobby that has brought many of us lots of joy during lockdown."
