A WOMAN was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed in the head, neck and arm.

Police officers were called at around 7.50pm on Wednesday following reports that a man had been stabbed at a house on Lower Hollin Bank Street, Blackburn.

The victim, 35, suffered stab wounds to his head, neck and arm, and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.

On Thursday it was reported that he remained in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Lancashire Telegraph:

A spokesperson for the police said: "At around 9:30pm on Wednesday, a 25-year-old woman from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

"Another woman, aged 20 and also from Blackburn, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

"They both remain in custody."

Enquiries are on-going to trace a man believed to have been involved in the incident.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Lower Hollin Bank Street was cordoned off overnight on Wednesday and remained closed for most of the morning on Thursday, before being removed just after 12.30pm.

A CSI team and one police car remain at the incident on Thursday afternoon.

On Wednesday evening officers asked members of the public to avoid the area, meaning some people arriving for work on Thursday morning were unable to access their units.

Faizaan Panwaskar who works at vehicle repair shop, Automobili on Hollin Bank Street said the cordon had been blocking the entrance to his business on Wednesday evening, but by morning officers had reduced the area by about 10 metres.

He said: "We had to deliver some cars to customers last night and couldn't get them out of the yard, so we had to leave, and now have a bit of a backlog.

"I got a phone call saying someone had been stabbed and we wouldn't be able to get into work this morning because the cordon was still there but I came anyway and luckily they'd moved it down a bit.

"I also heard there was an incident on the canal last night but I don't really know what else is going on.

"The guys from Blackburn Power can't get into their unit, they're usually in really early but the police won't let them through."

Lancashire Telegraph:

A worker from one of the business units nearby who wished to remain anonymous said: “I’ve heard there’s been a stabbing at the end house.

“I came to work at 7.15 this morning and it was all cordoned off.

“The police have been here all night I think.

“It’s a bit of a dodgy area round here.

"We try to keep the units secure but there’s been a few break-ins, people coming through the roof and stuff."

Lancashire Telegraph:

People living and working in the area reported seeing divers searching the canal on Wednesday afternoon, with several officers and the underwater search and marine unit parked on the Longshaw Street.

Lancashire Telegraph:

However, the presence of the marine team is not thought to be connected to this incident.
