AN ATTEMPTED ram-raid took place at a popular Blackburn bicycle shop last night.

The incident took place at the shop on Whalley New Road and police received the call at 11.10pm.

Duty Inspector Craig Kelshaw said: "There was an attempted burglary at On Yer Bike whereby a van was driving into the front of the premises to steal goods.

"We believe no items have been taken but a white transit van was driven away from the scene and was located by officers nearby.

"It has been seized by police and no arrests have taken place at this stage of the investigation.

"We want to reassure business owners that incidents like this are being investigations and would urge them to keep shops locked and secure and have CCTV.

"Anyone with information about the incident should contact Lancashire Police on 101 and use the log number of 1601 of June 6th."

A nearby resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It was roughly at 11pm last night there was several large bangs.

"So I decided to be nosey and pop my head out of the window when I saw a couple of guys in a white transit.

"The van was reversed back to the shutter. At this point my neighbour was out on the phone to the police.

"I got dressed to go out and confront them but they bailed before I could get outside.

"My neighbours said they were not getting far because the van was busted up."

It comes after the Lancashire Telegraph reported yesterday about a ram-raid taking place on an industrial estate in Darwen.
