JUST one new coronavirus-related death has been reported across Lancashire over the last 24 hours.

A total of 860 people have now died in hospital after the Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust reported one new death to NHS England.

The trust has now recorded a total of 178 Covid-19 related deaths since the start of the outbreak.

Elsewhere, the East Lancashire Hospitals Trust, which operates the Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General, has reported 185.

The death toll within Lancashire Teaching Hospitals remains at 199 and the Southport and Ormskirk NHS Foundation Trust has now recorded 138 fatalities.

At the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, 160 people have died after testing positive for the deadly virus.

The figures do not include people who died in care homes or the community and the actual number of hospital deaths is thought to be higher than reported due to a delay in recording figures.

Across the North West as a whole, the total death toll stands at 4,133.

The UK hospital death toll today increased by a further 177 to a total of 30,553.
