KIND-HEARTED families from two Winchester nurseries have joined together to help those in need.

Following an appeal for donations from Winchester Round Table, children and adults from both Maples Day Nursery and West Downs Day Nursery have collected essential items for local food banks, with the hopes of providing help to those who may be currently struggling.

After watching the donations being collected by the repurposed sleigh, delighted children and practitioners from the day nurseries on Hatherley Road and Romsey Road, respective, discussed the importance of community spirit.

Hampshire Chronicle:

This inspired pre-schoolers to create personalised gift bags for their own keyworker parents, complete with handmade cards, photos and poems, as well as added breakfast snacks that they could enjoy on their way to work.

Maples Day Nursery manager Sian Murphy said: “We’ve seen so many lovely acts of kindness within the community in recent times and it felt brilliant to contribute towards that – it also led to some brilliant conversations with the children about why we should help others. They loved putting together gifts for their parents, and they were so gratefully received.”

Over the two weeks the Round Table members were out collecting more than 400 crates of food and hygiene products were donated.

Speaking previously Basics Bank chairman Mike Whitehead said: “Donations from the whole community have been massive and the work put in by the Round Table team to collect them with their sleigh touring the streets has been excellent.”
