A TOTAL 820 people have now died in Lancashire's hospitals after testing positive for the coronavirus.

The latest figures published by NHS England show that eight new deaths have been registered by trusts across the county in the last 24-hours.

Of those deaths, three were recorded in hospitals such as the Royal Blackburn or Burnley General, operated by the East Lancashire Hospitals Trust.

A total of 177 people receiving care by the trust have now died.

Another three were reported by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which now has a total death toll of 166.

Just one death was registered in facilities operated by the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust with a new total of 159.

The trust with the highest number of deaths so far - Lancashire Teaching Hospitals - hasn't reported any new deaths in the last twenty four hours.

On Thursday the trust, which operates the Royal Preston Hospital, reported 10 deaths bringing its fatality rate to 185.

The Southport and Ormskirk NHS Foundation Trust was the other operation not to report any new deaths, with its total remaining at 133.
