A PLANT company building has been completely destroyed in a large fire.

Eight fire engines tackled the blaze in Huyton Road in Adlington, Chorley, since 6pm last night.

The damage is so severe, the building is currently being demolished as it is unsafe.

Eight fire engines were called from both Lancashire and Manchester with four engines still in attendance.

Blackburn Fire service were also at the scene.

They tweeted: "Busy shift for Red Watch at Adlington tackling a warehouse fire.

"Both crews spent the night manning the Stinger and the Command Unit to help bring the blaze under control alongside our colleagues at Manchester Fire."

A statement from the fire service read: "The majority of the fire has been extinguished however crews are still putting water on hot spot areas and small pockets of fire.

"The crew will be at the incident for some time working with the local authority and plant company to demolish the building safely whilst extinguishing all remaining hot spots.

"The advice remains the same to residents to stay away from the area and keep windows and doors closed as there is still some light smoke in the area."

No injuries were reported at the scene and it is yet unclear how the fire started.
