CONSERVATION charity Friends of the Lake District is asking people to tell it where South Lakeland's "grot spots" are, ahead of its Great Cumbria Litter Pick on Saturday, March 21.

Organiser Ruth Kirk said: "Our office is based in Kendal and we regularly find litter in the beck behind our building. Sadly, we know many other areas are similarly blighted.

"So we are asking people to email us to tell us where the real "grot spots" are in South Lakeland and we will work out an itinerary to cover as many of these as possible in a mobile rubbish-busting blitz on Saturday, March 21.

"We’ll publish a list of the sites and the times we’ll be visiting them on our website and social media. We want community-spirited people to come out and join us to help clear up our beautiful county. ”

You can email your suggestions to organiser Ruth Kirk at ruth-kirk@fld.org.uk by Monday (March 16).

The Great Cumbrian Litter Pick will be running for its third year Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21st.

Friends of the Lake District said that so far nearly 40 individual litter picks have been registered with the Great Cumbrian Litter Pick across the county, from a beach clean in St Bees to a "walkers are welcome" litter pick in Kirkby Stephen. Some 22 schools so far are taking part, and Staveley adventurer and explorer Leo Houlding is helping promote the 2020 event as its ambassador.

A £500 prize will be awarded to one community or school taking part, to be spent on environmental improvements, as well as free environmental books for each school or college that signs up.
