A TEENAGE band which performed three of its own original songs has walked away with a prestigious Trafford musical prize.

Red Melody, a four-piece whose members are all in Year 11 at St Ambrose College in Altrincham. impressed judges at the annual Trafford Music Service's Battle of the Bands competition.

Their rousing showcase helped the band to go one better than the runners-up spot they clinched in 2019.

Guitarist and lead singer Matyas Price Jones said: "Not winning last year became more of an incentive for us to win this year.

"We listened to last year's feedback and we really worked hard rehearsing for hours to make sure that we impressed.”

Joe Seal, a Battle of the Bands judge and Trafford Music Service tutor, added: "This year, all six participating bands set an incredibly high standard, and it was a very difficult job to find a winner.

"Red Melody performed an electrifying and energetic set, it was amazing to see how they've improved over the year."

The music service hosts its own rock school at the Claremont Centre in Sale every Wednesday

Ruth O’Keefe, Trafford Music Service head, congratulated Red Melody and added: "We’re encouraging as many Trafford young people to be musical, so if you know of the next Ed Sheeran or Oasis please go to www.traffordmusicservice.co.uk.”

The band will now go on to represent the borough at the Greater Manchester Rock Showcase at Band on the Wall on Sunday, March 15.
