Witnesses are being sought after a dog walker was bitten.
The incident happened on Sunday, on the canal path close to the Navigation Pub in Blackburn.
It is believed a grey dog, thought to be of the Akita breed, initially had an altercation with another dog.
Following a scuffle, one of the dog walkers was bitten.
A spokesperson for the police said: "We're appealing for anyone who may be able to provide information regarding a dog bite on the canal path near to the Navigation Pub in Blackburn on Sunday February 16.
"The incident involved a grey Akita type dog, possibly called King, which initially had an altercation with another dog.
"This led to a person being bitten by one of the dogs.
"If you witnessed this incident or have any information regarding the owner of the dog then please contact us on 101 and quote log number 1040 of February 16.
