BRISTOL City boss Lee Johnson has given Burnley new boy Josh Brownhill his blessing as he tests himself in the Premier League for the first time.

The 24-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half year deal at Turf Moor, with the option of a further 12 months, after the clubs agreed an undisclosed fee for the Warrington-born midfielder.

Brownhill joined the Robins from Preston North End in the summer of 2016, going onto make 160 appearances and score 17 goals at Ashton Gate.

Having previously worked with Johnson while on loan at Barnsley, the pair then enjoyed great success together with City.

“Josh has been one of my favourite signings throughout my time in football and I am delighted with the progress he has made,” said Johnson.

“He is a fantastic student who fully deserves his shot in the Premier League and we wish him all the best.”

City’s Chief Executive Officer Mark Ashton said: “Josh goes with our blessing. He is at an exciting point in his career and we recognise both his ambition and the value that we will receive for Josh that can be invested in Bristol City.”

Brownhill could make his Clarets debut when Arsenal visit Turf Moor on Sunday.
