JACK Cork believes Burnley could be catching Arsenal at just the right time.

The Gunners are still adapting to life under Mikel Arteta and have drawn their last three Premier League games, winning 2-1 at Bournemouth to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup last time out.

In all it is just two wins in 16 in the league, the start of that run ultimately costing Unai Emery his job.

The sides meet at Turf Moor on Sunday on the same number of points, 30 from 24 games, with the Clarets on an upward trajectory after their victories over Leicester and Manchester United.

Cork insists the hosts will look to take the game to the Gunners and test their mettle from the off.

“Arsenal are Arsenal, they are still one of the best teams in the country,” the midfielder said.

“It’s still going to be a tough game, they always try and play good football. It’s one that we’re going to have to make sure we’re right up for.

“They’ve got some world class players. They are going through a transitional stage a bit like Man United and Chelsea and it would be good to get them at a time where they’re a little bit vulnerable and try and get at them.”

After ending a run of four straight defeats against Leicester, the win over United - a first at Old Trafford since 1962 - meant memories of recent struggles and concerns about being dragged into matters at the wrong end of the table were quickly a thing of the past.

Cork admits confidence is certainly on the rise but knows there are still some hard yards ahead.

“We had tough fixtures these last four or five games,” said the 30-year-old.

“We looked after Aston Villa (on New Year’s Day) and wondered where we were going to get the points from but getting a point off Arsenal would be a great way to set up the end of the season for us.

“The two wins have put us in a good position and we’re playing with confidence.

“We’ll go into that game thinking we can get a result against them because we did it against Leicester and Man United.

“The table looks a lot better. We’ve still got a bit of work to do but it’s a good position to be in.”
