Two people had to be taken to hospital after the car they were travelling in crashed and rolled down an embankment.
Emergency services were called to the A682 at Blacko on Monday afternoon.
Fire crews from Nelson had to stabilise the vehicle in order to rescue a man and a woman after the car landed on its side.
The air ambulance attended as a precaution, but was stood down, and the man and woman transported to hospital via paramedics.
Station Manager Mick Strickland said: "One male and one female were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital by ambulance."
Drivers were asked to find an alternative route as the road was closed for several hours so officers could carry out an investigation and the vehicle could be recovered.
