POLICE have confirmed they are investigating after two teenage boys allegedly offered to sell cannabis to Barrow schoolkids.

Chetwynde School headteacher Steve Jefferson raced after the two youths after the incident was brought to his attention at the end of the day last Thursday.

Parents had reported the two lads had been offering to sell cannabis to Chetwynde pupils.

Mr Jefferson challenged the boys, who attend different secondary schools in Barrow, and called the police about the incident.

The teenagers are alleged to have attempted to offer cannabis to pupils as they left Chetwynde at around 3.30pm.

The Mail understands the schools and the boys were identified and the information was passed to police.

A spokeswoman for Cumbria Police confirmed the incident had been reported to police and Inspector Jim Bailey was liaising with Chetwynde School as part of the investigation.

"Police are aware of an incident outside Chetwynde School on Rating Lane and the community team are looking into it," the spokeswoman said.

"I’m told that Inspector Bailey is speaking with the school."

After the incident Mr Jefferson wrote to parents to reassure them of increased safety measures.

“I am proud of how our pupils reacted to this behaviour which shows how mature and responsible they are.

“We will be monitoring the situation and a member of staff will be present by the school gates at the end of each school day.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
