A RECENT feature about the demise of Feniscowles Hall, former home of the influential Feilden family, created a massive amount of interest and prompted Bygones reader Sam Best to get in touch.
He managed to take some photos of the hall a couple of years ago which show there is very little standing of the once proud mansion.
Built in 1808, the house was abandoned in 1911 due to the pollution in the nearby River Darwen which made it impossible for the family to live there.
In its heyday, deer roamed the parkland surrounding the house and an army of servants looked after one of Blackburn’s most influential families.
Sam’s photos illustrate what just over a century of neglect can do with just the remains of the front elevation giving a glimpse as to what was once there. The roof has long since gone allowing the elements to have free rein.
All the internal floors have disappeared although the cellars to the hall still exist.
