PROSECUTORS have singled out the case of an East Lancs man – the first to be jailed in the UK for upskirting – after the new voyeurism offence was introduced.
Stuart Bulling was caught taking unsolicited images of girls at the Asda supermarket in Rawtenstall last September.
The 50-year-old, who was also caught with indecent images, was jailed for two years at Preston Crown Court in November.
Bulling was one of 10 men convicted of the new upskirting offence, with the majority caught offending in supermarkets or shops.
Siobhan Blake, CPS national lead for sexual offence prosecutions, said: “The fact women are being violated in this way while shopping or going about their daily business is appalling. I would like to pay tribute to the vigilance of the victims and witnesses – many of them store security guards – who refused to let this conduct go unchallenged.”
She also pledged to victims that prosecutors would continue to press for upskirting charges where appropriate.
