A pensioner became trapped under his own car and had to be rescued by the fire service.

The man, who was in his 70s, had parked his vehicle up on Pendle Road in Clitheroe but had forgotten to put his handbrake on.

As he got out of the car, it rolled forwards over his foot and trapped his clothes underneath the wheel.

Emergency services were called to the address at around 3.40pm on Wednesday and fire crews assisted the man by pushing the car away so he could free himself.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We were called to reports of a collision but when we got there we found a man had been trapped underneath his car by his clothing.

"Firefighters assisted in extricating the man, who was then handed over to the care of ambulance crews at the scene."

The man suffered only minor injuries and was not taken to hospital.
