A MENTAL health charity has been given £1,000 from a rock choir.

Donning elf costumes, The Preston, Chorley, Wigan and St Helen's Rock Choir raised the cash for Lancashire Mind during a week of rehearsals.

Choir leader Laura Bennett said: "We were proud to sing at Lancashire Mind’s successful Mental Elf fun run but wanted to do more.

"We all came dressed as elves to our last rehearsals of the year."

The Rock Choir, which has 280 members, have been singing together for just two years.

Amy Sheehan Daly, operations manager for Lancashire Mind and a choir member, said: "Boosting well-being and taking care of your mental health is central to what we do at Lancashire Mind and as Laura said singing is a great way to do this.

"As a member of the choir myself I know this to be true.

"Lancashire Mind relies on fundraising events such as the Mental Elf fun run and organisations like the choir donating in order to continue carrying out the important work we do right across Lancashire.

"We're extremely grateful for all the help and support we receive to help make Lancashire happier."
