PEOPLE gathered to pay their respects to those who were killed and injured in the London Bridge terror attack last week.

Schoolchildren, emergency service workers, council officers and residents stood side by side outside Blackburn Town Hall this morning.

Cllr Jim Shorrock, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s mayor, paid tribute to the two victims, Jack Merritt, 25, and Saskia Jones, 23, followed by a one-minute silence.

Leader of the council, Cllr Mohammed Khan, said: “We have seen the best of humanity and the worst of humanity.

“Our heartfelt thanks go to our emergency services - the police, ambulance and fire services who risk their own lives to keep us safe. These evil people will not divide us. We need to stay united and together we will defeat them.”
