A CHURCH and charitable organisation is ensuring that no child in the town will wake up without a present this Christmas.
The Salvation Army’s church and community centre in Blackburn is encouraging the community to add an extra toy to their shopping list this year so that families struggling to buy a gift for their children can make sure there is something for them to open on Christmas.
Major Ian Emery, leader of the Blackburn centre, said: "We work all year round with the most vulnerable members of the local community and recognise that when the festive season approaches, many struggle to make ends meet with all of the added expense that Christmas brings."
A Christmas community carol concert will take place in its worship hall on Vicar Street on Sunday, December 1 at 2pm, and attendees can bring a gift for the Christmas Present Appeal.
People are also invited to drop a new, unused and unwrapped toy for children and young people, to the collection point at the local Salvation Army Lifehouse on Heaton Street.
