A FAMOUS artist will visit Pleasington Priory to celebrate its bicentenary year.

Humphrey Ocean who is a contemporary British painter and Royal Academy Professor of Perspective is visiting Pleasington Priory in Blackburn on Saturday November 30.

He was born Humphrey Erdeswick Butler–Bowden and is a descendant of John Francis Butler who provided the inspiration and the funds for the building of Pleasington Priory.

This year Pleasington Priory is celebrating the bicentenary of the opening of the grade one listed building on August 24, 1819.

The Butler Bowden family also donated a stained glass window in 1951.

As part of the bicentenary celebrations, parishioners have organized a Christmas tree festival in the church from November 28 to December 1 and Mr Ocean is due to visit the festival.

Admission is £5 and the public can visit on Friday from noon until 8pm, Saturday until 6pm and Sunday until 6pm.

Mr Ocean was elected a Royal Academician in 2004 and since 2012 he has been the Royal Academy Professor of Perspective a position once held by J.M.W. Turner.

He came to prominence with his exhibition A Handbook of Modern Life (2012-13) at the National Portrait Gallery London.

His notable works include; Lord Volvo and his estate (1982), Paul McCartney (1983), Philip Larkin (1984), Black Love Chair (2007), Randy Lerner (2016).
