1. Blackburn Christmas lights
It’s that time of year again! Kick-start your yuletide with Blackburn’s annual Christmas lights switch-on in the Town Hall Square on Saturday 23 November.
There will be two parades around the town centre at 2pm and 5pm, culminating in a grand finale show, with Father Christmas joining the Mayor onstage to light up the town for the festive period.
There’ll be a spectacular firework display at 6pm to round off proceedings and set the season off with a bang.
And with festive storytelling, craft, circus workshops and a meet and greet with none other than Peppa Pig herself, it promises to be an enjoyable day out for all the family. Entry is free.
2. Blackburn Cathedral Frost Fair
This weekend, the magical and atmospheric Blackburn Crypt, inside the Cathedral, plays host to a vibrant indoor arts market.
Visitors will be wowed by the impressive architectural features and array of artisan goods on offer.
With luxury treats both sweet and savoury, original art and quirky gifts ideal for stocking fillers, it promises to be a Christmas shopping experience like no other.
Entry is free, and the fair is open from 4pm to 9pm on Friday 22 November and 10am to 5pm on Saturday 23.

3. Derek Acorah at St Mary’s Chambers
He made his name hunting ghosts on Sky’s Most Haunted, and now TV favourite Derek Acorah brings his unique psychic stage show to St Mary’s Chambers in Rawtenstall. He’ll be onstage at 7:30pm on Friday 22 November, and tickets are available for £18: www.ticketline.co.uk
4. World Class Brass
The Black Dyke Band are one of the most successful brass bands this country has produced. Formed in West Yorkshire in 1816 (they’ve had a couple of line-up changes since then), the band have recorded with artists ranging from Paul McCartney to The Beautiful South and even appeared in an episode of Victoria Wood’s dinnerladies. They bring their World Class Brass show to the Burnley Mechanics on Sunday 24 November. Visit burnleymechanics.com
5. The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband
Blackburn Drama Club present their new play The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband, at the Empire Theatre.
Written by Debbie Isitt (Nativity!) and directed by Carolanne Connolly, the show follows Ken, a man who leaves his wife for an attractive young woman named Laura. Only trouble is… she can’t cook.
