THE return of The Repeater Band to the village hall raised £323 for the hall funds, despite there being a disappointing turnout.

All who attended were well entertained by music from the 1950s and 60s, with many showing off their jive and rock dancing skills. 

THE next Wednesday Club meeting will be at the village church on October 30 (7.30pm), when David Poole will give an illustrated talk on Wild Morecambe Bay. 

THE annual charity fair, organised by the village church, will be held on November 2 in Storth Village Hall and most local charities have signed up to have stalls.

Hotpot lunches will also be available.

 

LEVENS...

LEVENS Methodist Church will host an evening with Chris Bibby, tomorrow (Friday, 6.30pm). Chris’ talk entitled Adventures of a Coach Tour Operator also includes music on the euphonium and supper.

LEVENS Arts and Film Society hosts Bubble Schmeisis at the institute on Sunday, October 20 (7.30pm). A Yiddish tale with a mixture of storytelling and live Klezmer music.

IAN Hodkinson will give a talk to Levens Local History Group about Francis Strickland the Jacobite Rebellions, tonight (Thursday, 7.30pm) at the institute. 
 
THE Ladies of Levens will meet at the institute on October 25 (7.30pm) when they will be joined by card-making expert, Lesley Blamire - former tutor at Grosvenor House Papers card-making workshops - who will show the ladies how to custom make their own Christmas cards using techniques such as rubber stamping and embossing and everyone will take home their creations.

A NEW weekly yoga class is starting on October 28 (5.30pm-6.30pm) at the institute.

A SPOOKTACULAR Hallowe’en party, organised by the playing fields committee, takes place on October 31 (5pm-8.30pm).

It is sure to be a frightful evening of gruesome games and terrific treats with spellbinding soup, horrifying hotdogs, monstrous mulled wine, creepy cakes and spooky sweets being served along with frightening face painting and crafts.

There will also be prizes for the best pumpkin and best dressed guest.

A NEW non-tutored, informal dance session, Monday Movers and Groovers is being held at the institute (7.30pm-9.30pm) giving people the chance to dance to an eclectic mix of music such as pop, soul, reggae and Latin.

RACHEL Mercer will be singing favourite old songs at St Thomas’ Church on November 3 (2pm). There will be a raffle and refreshments.
