OLD HUTTON...

THE primary school had a special day as part of Dyslexia Awareness Week.

The teachers were given a challenge to plan an activity or lesson that required no pen or pencil, in support of children and adults who may struggle with writing because of their learning difference.

They also gathered for a special assembly to recognise famous and successful people who have achieved many aspirations despite their dyslexic tendencies.

The collective worship committee led an amazing harvest celebration in church. The pupils took part in singing songs, reciting poetry and prayers which linked harvest to this term’s Christian value of humility.

A special well done to Year 6 who confidently presented the work of the Winnie Mabaso Foundation. Thanks for the kind gifts of food and flowers which will be shared by the church between Manna House, the Food Bank and Bendrigg Trust, with a donation of pet food to the Wainwright Animal Shelter.

The children raised more than £80 for their chosen fundraising charities: the RSPCA and the Winnie Mabaso Foundation. With this money they will be able to fund a second vegetable garden to feed a family in Meriting Village, South Africa.

Thanks also to the Rev Craig and all at the church for hosting the service. It was a very joyful and reflective start to the week.

The new reception children have settled brilliantly into class one and have enjoyed making new friends while exploring their classroom and outside spaces.

Activities have included yoga and music led by external specialists, forest school sessions in the wildlife area, performing in the harvest festival and a visit from Mr Patel to tell them about Eid and how it relates to harvest.

On Thursday mornings, Year 5 has been going to Kendal Climbing Wall to earn a Level One Climbing Certificate.
