CROOK...

CROOK Art Group is having an exhibition at Crook Memorial Hall today (Saturday) and Sunday, from 10am-4pm on both days.

Entrance is free and there will be artwork for sale as well as home-made refreshments. 

CROOK WI did very well at the Westmorland County Show, gaining first and second places for their entries in the Co-operative classes and several members gaining top stars for individual entries. 

Speaker at the October meeting was Tony Fitch with an amusing talk entitled Forty Years as a Solicitor. He had tales of interesting events and rather eccentric people who he had come across during his career.

CROSTHWAITE...

AN APPLE pressing day is being held at Low Farm, Lyth (LA8 8DJ) today (Saturday, 10am- 3pm).

Take your own washed apples and pears, plus enough clean containers. 1kg of fruit produces three quarters of a litre of juice.

Pasteurises are available. There is no charge, but donations to South Lakeland Orchard Group are welcome.

ST MARY’S Church, Crosthwaite is holding a harvest service on October 13 (11am). The church is being decorated today (Saturday, October 12, 1pm) and all offers of help are welcome, no experience necessary. Telephone Vonnie on 015395-68028 if you can help. 
 
A HARVEST soup and pud lunch will be held on Sunday, October 13 (12.30pm) at the village hall.

Telephone Geraldine Wilson on 015395-68836 for tickets. There will be no produce auction this year, instead, at both the preceding harvest service and the lunch, donations of food items are invited.

These will then be passed on to Kings Food Bank. Shortage items are UHT milk, tinned custard, rice pudding, carrots, sweetcorn, instant pasta and fruit squash. 
 
CROSTHWAITE Post Office situated in the Punch Bowl will be open on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, October 14, 15 and 18; it will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, which is a change to the usual days. 

LYTH Valley Farmers’ Discussion Group meets at The Gilpin Inn on Monday, October 14 (7.30pm). The speaker is Andrea Meanwell, a Lake District National Park farming officer. 
 
CROSTHWAITE and Lyth WI invites all to its open meeting on Wednesday, October 16 (7.30pm) at the village hall. The speaker Dr Simon La Frenais will give a talk on Charles Darwin. 

THE Village Hall Committee is hosting a quiz and pudding evening on October 19 (7.30pm).

There will be a light-hearted quiz with free puddings at half-time.

Teams are made up of four but go along and make up a team on the night. Pay at the door.

BRIGSTEER AND HELSINGTON...

TICKETS are on sale for Klezmer-ish, Music of the Travellers, at the village hall, Brigsteer, tonight (Saturday, October 12, 7.30pm).

Klezmer-ish is what happens when four classically trained musicians from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra let down their hair; explore a wide range of music from across the world and fuse it together into their own unique sound.

Join them for a heady mixture of tunes and influences from Jewish klezmer music and Celtic folk to Argentinean tango and gypsy jazz.
