THE man credited with discovering Oasis while they were playing a gig in Glasgow is heading to East Lancashire.

Scottish businessman and music industry executive, Alan McGee, is best know for co-funding and running the independent record label, Creation Records.

He will be at St Mary’s Chambers in Rawtenstall on Friday for a special ‘evening with’ event.

Alan will discuss his career, which saw him managing bands such as the Happy Mondays and The Libertines, and the music industry in general.

Other significant bands that were signed by Creation Records include 3 Colours Red, The Boo Radleys, Bernard Butler, Heavy Stereo, Bob Mould, My Bloody Valentine, Teenage Fanclub, Saint Etienne, Kevin Rowland and Super Furry Animals.

In 1997, the revitalised Labour Party took note of McGee’s accomplishments with Creation Records and recruited him to spearhead a media campaign in order to appeal to Britain’s youth culture.

He was largely responsible for changing government legislation in relation to musicians being able to go on the new deal which gave them three years to develop and be funded by the government instead of having to take other jobs to survive.

Tickets are on sale at stmaryslive.com or by phoning 01706 223 222.

St Mary’s also have three VIP booths available for the event, situated on the private balcony which seats around 8-10 people, (exclusive of tickets) and includes a drinks package tailored to your tastes and budget and an exclusive meet and greet with Alan.
