A 56-YEAR-OLD woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a major crash on the M56 yesterday, Thursday.
At around 5.20pm, emergency services responded to the serious road traffic collision on the eastbound carriageway, between junctions 10 for Stretton and 9 for the Lymm interchange.
The incident involved several cars and a HGV.
Sadly, a 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 62-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A further five people sustained minor injuries.
The carriageway was shut for 12 hours while emergency services worked at the scene.
The road was fully re-opened shortly before 5am today, Friday.
