A TOWN superstore's recycling centre has been hit by a plague of fly-tipping.

In 2017 the large unit at Sainsburys in Windy Bank ,Colne, suffered a string of incidents of people dumping waste there.

Two individuals were identified by Pendle Council officers and fined.

This summer the illegal rubbish dumpers have returned and the borough has once again issued Fixed Penalty Notices.

Boulsworth ward's Cllr Sarah Cockburn-Price said: "This puts the future of the recycling centre in jeopardy. In 2017 I worked with Pendle Council officers and they were able to issue two large fines and Sainsbury’s not only retained their recycling centre but expanded it.”

Pendle Council recently issued a £400 fine for fly-tipping household waste on the Sainsbury’s site.a second one to a commercial offender living in Worcester.

Sainsburys branch manager Ash Metcalfe said: “Illegal fly tipping clogs up our recycling centre. We welcome the council’s support.”
