VALLEY Sounds, the one-day music festival, is returning to the Ribble Valley nest month.

Chris Helme, former lead singer of the Seahorses will be headline the event at the Old School Rooms and Assembly Hall in Clitheroe on Saturday, October 5.

This year’s festival will have a distinctly retro theme with every artist appearing being asked to perform a cover version of an 80s song of their choice during their sets.

Katie Winstanley, one of the festival’s organisers, said: “We learned a lot from last year which was the first festival. The buzz it created in the town was amazing and it showed there is a demand for an event like this.”

The line-up includes rising indie band Callow Youth and David Jaggs, frontman of Ribble Valley outfit The Ragamuffins who will be performing a solo set.

“David is returning this year and has promised to do a set of 80s themed covers which should be fun,” said Katie. “We’re also turned the Old School Room into an 80s themed room - with DJs playing 80s music. We’re not talking cheesy Eighties but some of the more indie songs from the era.”

A new addition for this year’s event will be burlesque performer Miss Twinkle Pink

The event is being sponsored by Goosnargh Gin and backed by Clitheroe Chamber of Trade and Commerce and also Clitheroe Town Council.

“It’s great that a fledgling festival like ours has received so much support from people locally,” said Katie. “When we started it we were all music fans who wanted to put on a festival that we would like to go to and it seems there are a lot of like-minded people out there who enjoyed what we did.”
