BURNLEY Mechanics will host the world premiere of the opera, The Fire of Olympus or On Sticking It To The Man on Saturday.
Composed by Tim Benjamin, the opera will be performed by Radius Opera and is a radical re-imagining of Greek mythology. Set against the backdrop of the global mega-corporation Olympus, the arch-politician and all-powerful Zeus – President of Olympus – engineers discontent among the public in order to further tighten his grip on power.
The opera features a cast of virtuoso young professional singers and also by the digitally-combined voices of over1,000 amateur singers from choirs across the North and Midlands, who took part in a series of workshops.
A film of the opera will premiere at the 2019 Leeds International Film Festival at the end of its UK tour.
