A MAN has appeared in court after he was found to be dumping cars on a private car park.

John Andrew, of Rose Street, Waterfoot, was charged with two counts of abandoning motor vehicles contrary to section two of the Refuse Disposal Act of 1978.

Andrew pleaded not-guilty to the counts, leading to him being found guilty at Burnley Magistrates Court on August 29.

The court heard that Andrew had abandoned a BMW convertible and a Saab convertible on a private car park at Dale Mill, Burnley Road East, prior to February 12th 2019.

After being found guilty he was fined £60 and ordered to pay £400 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

The Refuse Disposal Act comes into play when it appears to a local authority that a motor vehicles in their area is abandoned without lawful authority on any land in the open air or on any other land forming part of a highway or road.

A spokesman from Rossendale Borough Council said: "A man has been fined after being found guilty of dumping vehicles on land in Rossendale.
