When we asked you to recommend your favourite place for a burger in East Lancashire, we should have known that you wouldn’t let us down.

We received scores of suggestions and what was immediately apparent was the diversity of the establishments which you love.

From high end country dining pubs to town centre, late night takeaways - they all featured in your selections.

As with all of our Five of the Best ... features, this is not meant to be a definitive list but merely a representation of some of the most popular from the many comments and recommendations we received.

Bumba’s Grill, Burnley Road, Rawtenstall

Handcrafted burgers are a speciality of this very popular establishment in the Rossendale Valley. ‘Incredible’ was how one contributor summed it up which is high praise indeed. If you’re feeling up to it, you could even attempt to tackle the Big Daddy challenge burger. ‘Unlike most places where quantity is a substitute for quality, the food here is served in huge portions whilst still tasting spectacular’ said one reviewer. You can choose from more than a dozen different burgers from the menu including both fish and chicken. ‘Delicious food, no frills, just good tasty food. Staff very friendly and efficient’ was one of the most recent reviews.

Craven Heifer, Pole Lane, Darwen

A popular dining pub, the Craven Heifer clearly has a large number of regular fans who rate the burgers. Two different burgers are on the menu - the trademark Heifer burger - an eight ounce beef burger; and a Cajun chicken burger. Both are served in ciabatta and to ease your conscience, thin fries are an option as well as ‘proper chips’. As one recommendation said ‘both burgers are ace!’

Higher Buck, Waddington

One of East Lancashire’s most popular country dining pubs, there is an extensive menu which features a very popular steak and smoked bacon burger. It’s a little more expensive that those from some town centre establishments but the quality of the locally-sourced ingredients is undeniable. ‘There’s a cheeky bit of chicken on there too’ noted one regular with others praising the levels of service and friendly atmosphere.

Di’s Diner, Yorkshire Street, Burnley

IT’S perhaps not surprising that a friendly, American-style diner in Burnley town centre should get a number of recommendations for the quality of its burgers. ‘Burnley’s best burger’ according to one fan with Di’s dynamic burger being judged ‘the best going’ .The stylish interior and large portions are often positively commented on.

Papa’s American Diner, Duckworth Street, Darwen

Any establishment which offers some 15 different burgers on its menu has to be considered something of a specialist in the art. ‘Amazing burgers’ was the verdict from one reader. The variety of burgers on offer will certainly leave you pondering. As well as the usual fare you can choose from a Dirty Fried Chicken Burger, a pizza burger and even a Waffle Iron burger which has a Belgian waffle added to a traditional bacon cheese burger - perhaps an acquired taste!
