SEVEN years of hopes, dreams and hard work reached fruition on Monday as the big build on the new £6.8m YMCA Stoller Campus was officially declared open.

Key benefactor Sir Norman Stoller CBE KStj DL performed the ceremony at the new state-of-the-art facility on the banks of Windermere. The ceremony was attended by Clare Hensman, the Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria, funders, contractors and supporters who have all helped to make the project a reality.

YMCA Lakeside has welcomed more than one million young people since opening its doors more than 60 years ago. With the launch of the new school and youth facility at the centre’s south camp, Lakeside will be able to grow the amount and quality of accommodation ensuring a more stimulating and inspiring place to learn.

YMCA Lakeside is one of the largest and most established outdoor education centres in the United Kingdom. It boasts 1.5 miles of waterfront and extensive woodland and offers more than 50 outdoor water and land-based activities.
