THE Blackburn Round Table has been an institution in Blackburn for decades.

Scores of men over the years joined the group to help fundraise for lots of charities in the region and support vulnerable people.

In the pictures below, we can see the group were a valuable part of the community.

An impressive £6,000 was raised through sponsorship to run the London Marathon in July 1998.

In the same year the group sponsored a mini bus to take St Aiden's Junior School football team to Scotland for a weekend tournament.

A team paddled the length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal to raise money for the Autism Appeal, and the Blackburn Roundtable held a family fun day at the Thorn Inn in Church to raise cash for them.

In the bottom left image we can see Asda supermarket staff donating a £60 cheque to the round table members for the 1997 'Ask Arthur' Christmas fund.

The group donated a number of smoke alarms which were fitted by the fire service during the 1990s.

Nowadays the Roundtable nationally raise more than £3million a year and has 30,000 members.

Internationally there are an extra 5,000 members in 60 countries.
