A TOWN square is set to host its ‘Biggest Weekend’ with a giant twist this August Bank Holiday.

The three-day event is part of Hyndburn Council’s promotion of Amazing Accrington.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, August 23, with Accrington’s Biggest Quiz.

The fun interactive event will see Accrington Town Square transformed into an outdoor garden with family-friendly entertainment and a big screen to track the scores.

With many teams already booked there is still space for others to join in with a registration fee of £10 for up to five members.

On Saturday afternoon the Square will host a ‘Pop Party’, featuring free live music, fairground rides and community stalls.

The Biggest Weekend will end on Sunday, August 25, with a Fantastical Forest Parade — a colourful and lively procession of giant puppets including a 15-foot Oaken Giant, all complete with handmade props, parading though the town in a spectacle of music and dance.

The puppets and props are being made in a series of local workshops running up to the weekend which are open to anyone who wants to make costumes, parade art or help create a giant puppet.

Cllr Miles Parkinson, leader of Hyndburn Council, said: “We’re looking forward to a packed weekend of fun and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.”
