ONE of East Lancashire's longest-running agricultural gatherings has been cancelled due to the awful weather.

Organisers of the Trawden Agricultural Show revealed the main events have been cancelled due to heavy rain.

On Facebook, a show spokesman said: "Unfortunately folks the weather has got the better of us.

"With the relentless weather we've had throughout the past two days, the showfield conditions have deteriorated so we have decided to cancel this year's Trawden show.

"We're sure you can appreciate a lot of volunteers' time, which has been taken up since October, and money is invested in putting on a local show, however we feel this decision is in the best interests of all involved."

Despite the main events not going ahead, the junior section will remain open.

A show spokesman said there will be no entry fee into the ground.

The spokesman said: "We do not want to disappoint your children who have been spending time making things for the show.

"Do not attempt to drive onto the show ground to deliver anything; you may well get stuck.

"Please park on the Rec car park or the car park immediately opposite that entrance.

"We will judge entries as normal and we shall bring crafts and activities for children to do.

"You can leave and come back for results or stay and do things.

"The Fell race is still happening.

"We shall finish about noon with presentation of trophies. Items can then be collected

"Thank you for your continuing support of the Trawden Agricultural Show.

"We look forward to welcoming you to the show in August 2020

"Mr Weatherman has 12 months to work on giving us sunshine."
