A COUNCIL has started taking bookings for a £1.4million scheme with six new state-of-the-art sports pitches and courts.

The work at the Edisford Sports Complex in Clitheroe is on schedule for completion by September.

Now Ribble Valley Council has started taking bookings for the new full-size artificial grass pitch and three sand-surfaced multi-sports courts, and two resurfaced five-a-side football pitches.

The move follows contractor CLS Sports confirming that the creation of the new Ribble Valley 3G, which includes a new toilet block and community room, was set to meet its September completion deadline.

Cllr Stuart Carefoot chairman of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s community services committee said: “This exciting scheme will meet increased demand for improved artificial pitches.

“It will contribute significantly to the development of sport and community activity in the borough, by facilitating a range of year-round activities unaffected by the weather.

“Work on the scheme is progressing well.

“There has been a high level of interest in the new pitches.

“We have already started taking bookings for the new season.”
