RAIL passengers on the Clitheroe and Blackburn line to Manchester and Rochdale are being affected by signalling problems today.

Several services already have been affected by a points failure between Bolton and Salford Crescent.

Travellers have not been able to leave the service at Salford Crescent.

Train operator Northern says the disruption should last at least until the end of Saturday.

A Northern spokesman said: "Due to a fault with the signalling system between Bolton and Salford Crescent fewer trains are able to run on the line."

Northern passengers at Salford Crescent, wanting to reach Manchester Piccadilly or Manchester Airport services are being advised that they can use Transpennine Express services for connections.
