A GROUP of South African children have been kitted out in Burnley Football Club colours thank to the Clarets Trust.

The strips were delivered to the Ottery Project in Cape Town earlier this month.

The scheme, which provides education and sport facilities for ‘street children’, has been supported by the trust for 10 years.

It delivers unused Burnley FC strips - both first team and reserve - from the club shop to the project when the kit is changed and cannot be sold locally.

Clarets Trust chairman and former Burnley MP Peter Pike said: “This is an important project to keep you people away from crime, drugs, gangs and poverty.

“The trust, along with Burnley FC, has supported it for 10 years. The project even calls its pitch ‘Turf Moor’.

“Our South African representative Anthony Cordle has just delivered that latest set of kit for the boys.”

Ottery Project organiser Moosa Mahadick said: “We had an amazing soccer day when Anthony visited the centre to drop off the gear . The boys were animated in there new strips and the energy was awesome. Anthony was surrounded by our boys who thanked Burnley for their generosity and belief.”
