INGLETON is preparing to roll back the years for another '40s weekend from July 5 to 7.

This year will have added poignancy being the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

The organising committee has secured the display and slideshow Callsign One Charlie which tells the story of the Churchill Assault Vehicle Royal Engineers and its crew.

Transport is going to be a key theme for the weekend with a visit from the Thwaites Dray Horses, a flypast from a Dakota aircraft on Saturday and not one, but two, vehicle parades.

In order to make these parades as impressive as possible, the organisers are putting out a call to owners of any classic vehicles to come and join in.

"We would welcome any pre-1950 vehicles – civilian or military," said chairman Tony Dodwell. "They don’t have to be specifically from the '40s as earlier vehicles would still have been around in the decade.

"In the past we have had bicycles, motorbikes, buses, wagons, cars and many more besides. Anyone bringing a vehicle to the event gets to park for free in the village itself to display their pride and joy and will be invited to join the parade.

"We have also arranged free parking for any re-enactors taking part in the event, you just need to contact us via our facebook page or email cdodwell@hotmail.co.uk for your permit."

Other new attractions for visitors to enjoy include Weddings of Yesteryear with a display of original dresses and much more from the decade, extra singers and dance opportunities including free jive lessons for all ages plus.

There are also living history displays and re-enactments from the Northern World War 2 Association with talks, firing demonstrations and lots more.

There will also be a short remembrance parade and service on Sunday plus lots of trade stalls, games and music.
