A MAN has avoided jail after becoming involved in a fight that left a party-goer needing metal plates in his jaw.

Daniel Harwood was out in Baggy's Wine Bar, Great Harwood, when a fight broke out between himself and an unsuspecting victim, Damien Landsberger. At an earlier court hearing in May it was heard how another man, Lewis Hester became 'unnecessarily involved’ in the fight and threw the punch that left Mr Landsberger requiring urgent medical care.

The fight, which started between Mr Landsberger and Harwood, quickly moved from the bar area on to the dance floor where the defendant pushed the victim to the floor. Hester then became involved punching him in the face. The scuffle was broken-up but later started again outside.

Harwood, of Hope Street, Great Harwood, was sentenced on Tuesday for the public order offence and was issued a 15-month community order, 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement and must undertake 60 hours unpaid work.

Hester was sentenced at an earlier date.
