Now visual essayist and data website The Pudding has unveiled a list of the most Wikipediaed celebrities from every UK town. Some will come as no surprise, while others less famous faces.

Actor and comedian, Steve Pemberton, was the most searched for Blackburn celebrity.

Steve is most famous for co-creating The League of Gentlemen and is credited with appearance in more than 30 films, TV shows and Theatre.

Darwen’s most Wikipediaed figure is musician and Bee Gees guitarist Alan Kendall.

First appearing on a track by Lancashire band Kris Ryan and the Questions.

Bacup’s most Wikipediaed celebrity is actor and singer Natalie Casey, despite the website saying she is from Rawtenstall.

Natalie is best known for appearing in Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet of Crisps and Hollyoaks.

Fellow actors John Simm and Sir Ian McKellen are the most searched for figures from Nelson and Burnley.

A multi-award winner John has appeared in Life On Mars and Doctor Who, while Sir Ian is perhaps best known for roles in The Lord of the Rings, X-Men and Shakespeare’s Richard III.

Famous violinist and RMS Titanic band leader Wallace Hartley, who drowned in ship’s sinking, is the most searched for of Colne’s natives.

A bust of the musician stands in Albert Road, Colne, and a pub in Church Street is named after him.

Other celebrities who were the most Wikipediaed in their home towns are:

* Clitheroe: Mixed martial artist and UFC star Michael Bisping.

* Accrington: Singer songwriter and Yes frontman Jon Anderson.

* Barnoldswick: Suffragist and the first female Independent Labour Party representative Selina Cooper

* Brierfield: Actor and Midsomer Murders star Anna Cropper.

* Padiham: Indefatigable pianist and composer William Blezard, who even played a concert in Barnes the night before his death.

* Worsthorne: England and West Ham United manager Ron Greenwood.

* Rishton: Physicist Ernest Marsden, also known as Ernest Rutherford, who was internationally recognised for his works on atoms.

* Clayton-le-Moors: Tasmanian and Lancashire County cricketer and club chairman Jack Simmons.

* Oswaldtwistle: Weaver, carpenter and inventor James Hargreaves, who is is credited with inventing the Spinning Jenny in 1764 and kick starting the Industrial Revolution.

* Crawshawbooth: Colonist and planter of 17th century Virginia, Raleigh Croshaw.

* Rawtenstall: Youtuber and radio presenter Phil Lester.

* Haslingden: Actor and star of The Bill and Coronation Street Connie Hyde

* Cloughfold: Cotton worker, trade unionist and the Labour party’s third MP David Shackleton.

* Waterfoot: Cartoonist and satirist Ray Lowry.
