THE rain couldn't dampen the spirits of the racegoers as Cartmel's season got underway on Saturday.
Big crowds headed to the course for the seven-race National Hunt card which signalled the start of the Whit Holiday Meeting.
And there were winners for star jockeys Brian Hughes and rising star Bryony Fost aboard Graceland and Sackett respectively.
There was also success for Cumbrian trainer Dianne Sayer, who sent out even money winner Tonto's Spirit.
They saddle up again at the course on Bank Holiday Monday (first race 2.10pm) and on Wednesday night for The Mail – Ladies Race Evening.
Our photographer Donna Clifford went along yesterday to capture the action. Can you spot yourself in our picture gallery?
