AS part of Dementia Action Week this week, primary school children are gearing up to put on a singing performance with patients living with dementia.
Eight pupils from St Joseph’s Primary School in Barnoldswick will perform this evening, alongside patients from Pendleside Hospice following a scheme which has seen them make weekly visits to meet staff and patients at the hospice's Living with Dementia sessions.
The children have been rehearsing the 1960s song, Bobby's Girl, ready to perform with the patients at a concert at Christ Church on Carr Road, Nelson.
Teaching assistant at St Joseph's, Louise Catlow said: "They’re really enjoying visiting the hospice and chatting with the patients – they are openly talking to the children about their memories from when they were a similar age, which is lovely to see. They like that they’re making such a difference to these people’s lives."
Pupils at St Joseph's were the first group of children in the UK to receive Dementia Friend status in 2014.
