DETECTIVES investigating an attempted murder in Rossendale have made a further arrest.

Three people - a 23-year-old man, a 32-year-old man and a 40-year-old man - had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after armed officers were called to Burnley Road East, Waterfoot, at 5.40pm on Tuesday following an incident in which a man in his 30s was shot in the leg.

The 32-year-old and the 40-year-old man, who had also been arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation, have now been released on bail until June 11, police have confirmed.

The 23-year-old man remains in custody.

However detectives have now arrested a 39-year-old woman, who is from Waterfoot, on suspicion of assault. She remains in custody today.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

Det Insp Simon Upton said: “We are now asking anybody with information that can help with our enquiries to get in touch as soon as possible. Maybe you were in the area and saw all or part of the incident, or something that seemed suspicious. Whatever information you have we would ask you to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Anybody with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log number 1125 of May 14.
