LAW firm Thomson Hayton Winkley is supporting Dementia Action Week by offering free drop-in sessions for people to discuss planning for the future and lasting powers of attorney.

The sessions are on Wednesday, May 22, from 10am to noon at 114-116 Stricklandgate, Kendal, and from 2pm to 4pm at 25 Crescent Road, Windermere.

Several of the firm's solicitors are trained "Dementia Friends", among them Nicola Steadman, one of the Kendal team.

She said: "Becoming unable to manage your affairs can happen at any stage in life and can affect anyone, making the simplest of things and the more important decisions difficult and stressful, but in some cases impossible.

"Being a Dementia Friend” has given me a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by people with the disease and highlighted the importance for people living with dementia to plan for the future with lasting powers of attorney. They are empowered to make the choices they would like, for their future, before it becomes too late.”
