VILLAGERS are looking forward to an even warmer welcome at their community hall thanks to a grant for new double-glazed windows.

The committee and trustees of Whittington Village Hall want to improve their supper room by replacing the windows fitted back in 1980.

Resident John Keegan said the room was "much used by the community" for events such as parish council meetings, coffee mornings and a variety of classes.

It also hosts a licensed bar, which replaced the Lune Valley village's pub when it closed a few years ago.

Lancashire Environmental Fund has given £1,000 from its Landfill Communities Fund for the work to be carried out.

"Grants of this nature are a godsend to small organisations," said Mr Keegan, who hopes other community groups may also apply to the fund.
